** RIGHT NOW SAT. JUNE 28: REALLY, REALLY FREE MARKET **

Hi Everyone,

Saturday June 28th the Really Really Free Market is happening in
Pasadena, -- it's like a community yard sale, except everything is
free - because people mean more than money: The Really Really Free
Market is a gathering of folks to come together to give freely. Of
their time, talents and items. You don't have to bring something but
if you have a talent like guitar playing or a skill you want to teach
people, a service you want to share like hair-cutting, or a game want
to bring to play, -- it is very welcome, as well as bringing items in
good condition that you are not using, books, furniture, clothing,
household items, etc.

To attend & get the address, or ask questions of the organizers go to
the Southern California free community swap gathering list: http://
groups.yahoo.com/group/LA_Swaps

You can also find invites there (or post about your own) free
community swap gatherings around all sorts of themes (Media Swaps,
Clothes Swaps, Magic/Altar-stuff Swaps, Seed Swaps, Book Swaps,
etc...) -- at these other swap gatherings you do need to bring a bag
of things to give away.

Gatherings like this support local autonomy/independence-strength,
recycling, & earth-consciousness.

I'm not on the internet much right now, so if you have questions or
comments specifically for me (as opposed to the folks above) --
please leave a message on my 24 hour voicemail (310) 936-3150

Best wishes,

  ~Diana

** NEWS FROM THE ART MONASTERY NEAR ROME ITALY **

    http://www.twanslist.com/2008/art-monastery-update/

Cari Amici,

We're writing with some WONDERFULLY good news!

First, the USA Fund Raising Tour was a resounding success! Not only
did we exceed our goal of $20,000, but we added hundreds of members
to Gli Amici dell'Art Monastery, and 5 brilliant experts to our fund
raising and production teams! Thank you all so much for showing up at
the events and helping us to make this dream a reality.

In May in Calvi, Christopher, the Alpha Team, and our first visiting
artists participated in the medieval festival of San Pancrazio
(patron saint of Calvi) with a Gregorian Chant Vespers for San
Pancrazio in the church and "Tra Quercia e Ulivo" a Duncan dance and
medieval music performance in the (rainy) piazza, much to the delight
of the locals. Relations here have never been better.

On June 17, we moved from the Casa del Popolo to the Bio-Agriturismo
Santa Brigida, a luxurious bed & breakfast on a working olive farm.
It is a gorgeous place (in fact, it's listed in the 2007 Michelin
Guide) and we hope to take over the management in order to create
another income stream for the Art Monastery. We plan to run workshops
and seminars here--more info on that will come soon.

Meanwhile, you are all invited to come and visit us in our new digs!

Feeling spontaneous?...

We're offering members of Gli Amici dell'Art Monastery 50% off market
rate** from now until July 15! We will offer double rooms or two-
double room suites that normally go for 90 or 125 euros per night
(they're the most luxurious rooms in Calvi) for 45 or 60 euros!

Don't let high airline ticket prices be an excuse--United Airlines is
having a European Summer Fare Sale starting at $385: http://
tinyurl.com/3sqlrj . With gasoline at the price it is, heading to the
next town is almost more expensive! Now is the time! Have an Italian
vacation and support the Art Monastery at the same time!

See you soon...
A presto...

Betsy & The Alpha Team

** 7/12/08: CREATE:FIXATE PRESENTS - BACKSCATTER II **

Create:Fixate presents

"Backscatter II"

The Fifth Annual All Photography Show

Saturday, July 12, 2008

http://www.createfixate.org/cfwp/?page_id=54

Arts organization Create:Fixate presents "Backscatter II" its fifth
annual All Photography Show with guest curation by Jason Elias. On
Saturday, July 12, 2008 the new downtown LA location known as LOT 613/
Premiere Events Center will play host to Backscatter with two
warehouses filled with nothing but photography and a live musical
soundtrack provided by top local DJs and musicians. Elias explains,
The theme of this year's Backscatter Photography Show is curated
around the basic meditative practice of awareness. The selected
photographers were chosen for their work that brings a unique and
personal perspective to a sense of simply seeing things as they are.

The venue is located at 613 Imperial Street, Los Angeles, CA 90021.

The full-blown event runs from 7:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m.

Admission is $15.00.
All ages are welcome.

For more information please call 310-590-7199 or visit
www.createfixate.com.

Thirty-five photographers will be featured presenting a vast array of
photographic moments captured from all over the world and our own
backyard of Los Angeles. Tait Simpson's images explore spaces left
behind, most notably in the isolated landscape of Iceland.

Sebastian Artz tends to be more composed and minimalist and lately
seems to gravitate towards aquatic themes after seeing a 19th-century
aquatic illustration on one of his trips to Europe. Even today many
marine creatures seem menacing, alien and quite mysterious. In the
"Kraken" series Artz opted for stark black images that are mysterious
and fascinating, repulsive and beautiful, fear inducing and attractive.

Sam Comen makes pictures of landscapes in order to document man's
relationship to the natural world. Comen employs his training as a
photojournalist to focus on a person's place in, and impact on, their
surroundings, and he is interested in how people's stories are told
by the places they inhabit. Comen also works as a portraitist for
national magazines such as Rolling Stone, Details, and Newsweek.

As always, the Create:Fixate experience includes something
interactive for guest participation. "Live Photography" projects will
be created by the innovative team Polite in Public, as well as by
photographer Greg Cohen. A blend of performance and installation art;
it's the essence of Karaoke in the form of photography and is
immensely enjoyable.

This exhibit will also feature student photographic work from
participants in Venice Arts programs. Venice Arts is an innovative
arts center that brings talented artists together with low-income
young people to nurture their creativity, imagination, and talent.

The musical component of the evening, dubbed "Audio Lab", is as rich
as the visual tapestry. Many DJs will take the decks and some special
live treats include So Cal native Aloe Blacc, and DJ Buck from New
York to Beijing to Jakarta, brings his 19 years of experience.
Kenneth Graham, booked from Chili to Switzerland, will perform live.
And Jupiter, co-founder of the acclaimed Lefthouse Recordings label,
will share his celestial sounds from LA's underground breakbeat scene.

Create:Fixate is dedicated to showcasing the work of emerging and mid-
career artists in a unique environment. Usually, every three months,
Create:Fixate founder Michelle Berc curates, produces and hosts these
stunning group art shows that present creative people from around the
globe with an emphasis on the local talent of Los Angeles. The
production team includes music coordinator Andrea Giardina. A typical
Create:Fixate event presents awe-inspiring painters, photographers,
sculptors, and multi-media artists who exhibit alongside an equally
impressive array of Los Angeles' finest DJs and musicians. Each
event's aural artists are poised to create a soundtrack for the night
that transforms this from a simple "art show" into the city's most
anticipated Art Event.

The artists being showcased at Create:Fixate's "Backscatter II" event
on Saturday, July 12, 2008 are listed below:

Amy Kaps

Amy Kaps works primarily with digital photography, video and live,
multi-media performance. The nude is a favored subject for Kaps and
our perception is challenged when objects are taken out of context.

Anne Carmack

Anne Carmack strives to gather the unique moments, the fleeting
flashes of who we all are, who we hope to be and how we want to be
remembered. Her growing collection of crooked smiles, hands held high
in absolute delight, twinkling eyes and twirling skirts, picks up
right where her paintings leave off, in a world of accidental
authenticity? courageous beauty by mistake

Cary Sullivan

Cary Sullivan traverses the culture, music and art landscape from
producing large scale music festivals in Africa to booking the weekly
multimedia Afro Funke club night in Los Angeles. Her photographs have
defined the cutting-edge series of flyers that have promoted Afro
Funke since its inception five years ago.

David Hauver

David Hauver's photography documents the relationship between man and
nature. He is especially interested in highlighting nature's
resistance to human expansion, and his photographs capture images of
man's decay within a natural context.

Jared Dastrups

Jared Dastrups' focus of work is on the Pacific Ocean. His favorite
past time is surfing, so naturally his passion for photography
followed him to the beach. He uses long exposures to smooth and
soften the oceans turbulent surface. This unique style offers a rare
glimpse at a surreal scene of the ocean we love so much.

Jason Barbagelott

Born August 26 1977, in Erlangen, Germany, Jason Barbagelott moved to
Georgia when he was ten years old. Growing up in the rural south, he
quickly became bored with the slow pace and lack of resources and
opportunity. He picked up a camera, started shooting and thus, a
passion was born.

Jason Elias

Jason Elias is a photographer and writer living in Venice,
California. Elias also runs a Travel Photography workshop business,
works in film and is currently working on a documentary. He has been
with Create:Fixate for years in many capacities, and is curator of
the current All-Photography Show. More of his work can be seen at:
www.jasonelias.com.

Linka Odom

Linka Odom's interest in photography and imagery stems from a
childhood of creek walking and exploration in her native state of
Texas. This sense of adventure continues to influence her images,
with a focus on extreme cultures and the surreal. Odom has been
exhibiting and photographing for over fifteen years.

Other photographers include:

JC Jaress
Joel Wachbrit
Josh Reiss
Matthew Brookman
Nicole Fournier
Olivia Hook
Sam Comen
Samuel Peltz
Sarah Bay Williams
Sebastian Artz
Tait Simpson
Vincent Picardi
Vincent Versace

And lots, lots more!

** PERFORMERS SOUGHT FOR PROJECT TO BE PERFORMED AT BURNING MAN **

My dear fellow Burner :)

Greetings! I've been on your list for years, and appreciate all that
you do. I wonder if you'd please help pass the word, about something?

I am part of a professional dance company in LA, slated to perform a
few times this year at Burning Man.
We are telling an original story (love story/ghost story/time travel
story) through original music and dance, mostly Waltz and Viennese
Waltz.
We are looking for 2 more lads, and 2 more lasses, to fill out our
cast, just for Burning Man.

They need to have a ticket already, and to be available for
rehearsals this Summer from 2-5pm in Burbank. Rehearsals pay $50
each, per person, per day.
Previous dance experience would be a huge plus, being a quick learner
is a must.

Our cast is already composed of artists/dancers/actors/Burners, so
any new arrivals will feel right at home with our down to earth, fun
vibe.

   ~Alec

(Alec didn't include his contact info, so if you're interested please
contact Twan at twanslist at mac.com and if Alec makes contact with me
I'll pass your information to him)

** NEW MUTAYTOR RECORD AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD **

It's with brimming pride that the Mutaytor is is pleased to announce
the completion and release of our third and newest album, "Yelling
Theatre in a Crowded Fire", our most ambitious and sonically evolved
work to date, almost two years in the making. This is our first album
to feature full ensemble in-studio performances from our eleven piece
modern rock orchestra, as well as special guest appearances from some
of our more talented friends. This also is our first album to feature
vocally driven numbers from several featured singers.

You can download the new mutaytor record RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND right
off the main page of www.mutaytor.com (give it a second for the
nimbit player to load up)

In the first review of the record, Los Angeles City Beat writer Ron
Garmon called the new album, "....a masterpiece....."Yelling Theater
in a Crowded Fire" is probably the most formidable work of art to
come out of the Burning Man subculture so far, but that’s a secondary
accomplishment. An unorthodox re-imagining of classic rock album
structure provides the framework for a series of neutron-funk
meditations on revolution, extinction, and fornication. A seamless
musical Frankenstein with the heart of "What’s Going On" and the
groin urges of "One Nation Under a Groove", this album is as much a
raised fist for Change as all those ubiquitous Obama posters."

In the next 2 months, we'll be relaunching our website and finalizing
the DVD. We'll be having listening parties in LA and San Francisco in
May, and June will mark the official release date with the physical
CD/DVD, the official Mutaytor fan club and much much more.

While we're at it - thanks so much for your support. Without you,
there is no us.

--With love from the entire Mutaytor crew

ps: don't forget to get out and vote this november. the whole world
is counting on us.

engagement, now set for August in Hollywood. Admission is $15 payable
online at www.laserium.com, with a dollar discount for groups of 5 or
more. Reservations cannot be confirmed without advance payment.
Because seating is limited, patrons are advised to reserve early. The
Cyberstudio is located at 6911 Hayvenhurst Ave., Van Nuys, marked by
the lighted Laserium sign.

Also enhancing the Laserium shows will be stunning multi-color laser
effects filling the air overhead. Each show experience lasts about
11/2 hours and will begin in an adjacent studio with the interactive
technologies to be incorporated in the forthcoming Laserium
CyberSpace. Patrons will have fun enjoying the unique, "freespace-
interactive" LightDancer, which puts their full body in flawless
control of lasers, video and musical accompaniment. And the
experience now features an exciting new set of music and multimedia
effects. Says Ivan Dryer, creator of Laserium, "Our Cyberstudio may
be intimate in scale, but the effects are pretty overwhelming, and
what people can see and do is unlike anything available anywhere—even
previously at the Griffith Observatory!'

Twan is in the process of moving out of his large apartment in the

room. Large bedroom (315 sq. ft.), private bathroom, vanity area.
This was Twan's bedroom, and as such, there are many dirty secrets
and good vibes present in the space. Too much information. Ah, well...
