The versions change after Burning Man each year. For no good reason. Whether I go to the Burn or not. The Black Rock City calendar seems to work best for me. Today's highlights: An 11th-hour posting featuring great events to participate in, which are going off tonight, Saturday September 25th. If I were you (and sometimes I wish I was), I'd head out to "Glow" in Santa Monica and also drop in to "Plump" (not necessarily in that order)... that oughtta do the trick! Visual treats and killer music. Well, that's my plan anyway! I hope to see you there! Also listed is some notable information and as well as near-future events that you may find to your liking. Have fun! Twan http://www.twanslist.com ===================== ** TONITE! SEP. 25 - "GLOW" ON THE BEACH IN SANTA MONICA ** ** TONITE! SEP. 25 - PLUMP! SEP. 25 - "GLOW" ON THE BEACH IN SANTA MONICA ** What: GLOW/Santa Monica - Dusk to Dawn When: Saturday, September 25, 2010 5:30 PM Where: Santa Monica Pier Colorado Ave & Ocean Ave Santa Monica, CA 90401 201 450 2352 If you've never experienced GLOW, you're in for a treat. It is an all night event, but you can come and go as you wish. It is along the beach. It is free. And the opportunity to take some amazing pictures awaits us. See you at the Santa Monica Pier at 5:30pm. Sunset is at 6:46 http://glowsantamonica.org/about/ Glow is returning to the splendor of Santa Monica beach on September 25, 2010. Building on the extraordinary success of Glow 2008, the free dusk-to-dawn biannual event features the work of international, national and local artists. Glow is the only all-night art event in the United States that emphasizes the commissioning of original artwork. Glow projects invite active audience engagement and exploration and constantly surprise in their unexpected placement in spaces and times not normally reserved for fine art. Santa Monica joins such cities as Paris, Toronto, Montreal, Rome, Brussels, Madrid and Riga as part of a global movement producing ?white night? or ?nuit blanche? events. The First Glow The first Glow attracted over 200,000 people and produced the astonishing sight of people patiently waiting in line to experience art at 3:00 AM. Over 100 artists participated in 27 projects dispersed in and around Santa Monica beach Glow?s audience is highly diverse and includes the general public, a veritable cross-section of Los Angeles County and international tourists who regularly come to the beach. Glow places the very best of contemporary culture within the context of the Pacific Ocean, one of the most abiding and powerful symbols of southern California and a preeminent public space for all of southern California. Glow 2010 Glow 2010 will commission 20 original artworks specifically for this one-night event. Artists include Anne Bray (Los Angeles), C?leste Boursier-Mougenot (S?te, France), Rafael Lozano-Hemmer (Montreal, Canada), Yoshua Ok?n (Mexico City) and Steve Roden (Los Angeles) . In addition to these five internationally known artists, an additional fifteen artists were selected through an open-call to artists in Los Angeles County. An important component of Glow?s programming includes the Glow Network, an affiliation with organizations in Los Angeles that are engaged in unusual and/or locally-based arts and culture activities. This year Glow is partnering with 18th Street Art Center, Freewaves, LAND and Machine Project to jointly curate and commission projects. ==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o) ==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o) ** TONITE!
