An excellent musical event is taking place tonight in Hollywood. Last May, while at the awesome Lightning in a Bottle Festival, I was treated to a stellar pre-sunset musical performance by El Papachango. It was gorgeous: the music, the setting, the time of day, the lovely people that danced that sexy dance, fomenting many a happy fantasy. I became an instant fan of El Papachango. Gorgeous! So I am quite happy to announce that Papachango is playing tonight at the King King in Hollywood. Not to be missed. And to further sweeten the deal, our own David Starfire is headlining the bill, sure to send shivers down your spine on the dance floor. I'm always happy to promote David's talents. He's not only a gifted musical artist, but a sweetheart of a guy. I can't tell you how many double-secret, semi- private sessions have been fueled by David's discs in my home! If those walls could talk... Come on out tonight and join the festivities. It's sure to be a crowd- pleaser! Read below for details. Diego Novoa aka El Papachango grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he began his career as sound engineer and dj, tinkering around with speakers and amps at the ripe age of fifteen. They call him El Papachango because he mixes from a diverse palette of electro, ragga, breaks, and hip-hop, creating a musical journey that has Universal appeal: sassy, playful, suave, and sometimes downright naughty, but always with a spicy Latin flavor. www.myspace.com/akapapachango * SAQI * The Portland-based artist saQi is a classically trained composer, producer and trumpet player. Drawing his name from the Sufi title for a mystic muse, saQi creates eclectic electronica that maintains a balance between organic and synthesized sound. His live sets rock the dance floor while maintaining a grace and musical depth to engage the listener. The music is never limited by genre, tempo or any other stylistic elements. Allegiance to the creative flow and its truest expression thereof is saQi?s manifesto. www.saqimusic.com/ ==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o) ==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o)==D~~(o)(o) ** OCT 30th, SATURDAY: BEATS ANTIQUE - PRESENTED BY THE DO-LAB ** "From under the shelter of world acoustic music?s canopy, live electronica has bred a new beast built of brass band and glitch, dubstep and glockenspiel: the musical trio Beats Antique." They meld their mediums as attentively as they fuse the cultures that inspire their sound. The trio create a unique collage: an animalistic, raw musical event that blurs the lines between the provocative, the spiritual, and the artistic, while still maintaining an allegiance to the muses of class and beauty. David Satori and Tommy Cappel both trained classically before venturing to locations such as Bali, West Africa, and Serbia. With extensive backgrounds in multicultural music production, and the passports to prove it, Satori and Cappel command the spectrum of live and digital instrumentation. The musical alliance of producers David Satori and Tommy Cappel is inspired and emphasized by their collaborative partnership with world-renowned belly dance performer and music producer Zoe Jakes. Zoe Jakes adds a third dimension as the multi ?cultural and ?disciplinary dance counterpart to Beats Antique?s sound. All of this sets the scene for Beats Antique?s overtly ambitious stage show, a sensory overload conquest of the festival circuit?s most riotous events. In a prolific 3 years since Beats Antique emerged, the group has just released their third album, Blind Threshold. Notable features of the new release include vaporous violins and Danny Elfman-esque dementia; glitchy, laser-guided harmonica provided by Blues Traveler frontman John Popper; and 2 very different vocal tracks that range between restless pop hooks and vibrant Eastern European dance loops. Beats Antique is best imagined as an innovative creature built from the cumulative heritage of the world?s music chasing its tail. http://beatsantique.com/ * ELIOT LIPP * Eliot Lipp didn?t choose to become one of the most looked to artists in contemporary electronic music, but somehow, Lipp?s sound, one that uses vintage gear to create a unique take on Hip Hop and House, has quickly garnered the respect among the industry?s most influential musicians and producers as well as the deep admiration among audiences worldwide. Lipp?s signature sound, a crossbreed of 90?s Hip Hop and House, 70?s Funk fusion as well as classic Electro, has and will continue to breakdown barriers and transpose trendy scenes. Whether programming Hip Hop beats, writing dirty basslines, collaborating with the likes of premier producers, DJs, MCs and musicians, examined by SPIN, URB, Pitchfork and other media or playing popping parties at clubs and festivals worldwide, Eliot Lipp will continue to do his part in revolutionizing electronic music. http://eliotlippmusic.com * JEREMY SOLE * For the past 20 years, Chicago-born Jeremy Sole has been making beats since the MPC 60 was born, deejaying since rotary crossfaders were the standard, and playing clubs since he was too young to (legally) get in. As a teenager, Sole's underground loft parties were packed with sweaty bodies - a culture clash at the birth of Hip Hop and House music. ?When I was young, I spent many a night in the alleys behind blues clubs, listening to cats like Buddy Guy through the air vents. Those same nights I would be mixing with legendary Disco deejays at our downtown loft parties." Since then his obsession grew to include music from around every corner of the world. Jeremy's list of accomplishments is incredible. They include being the co-founder of Afro Funke' 7 years ago, to sharing the stage with Sly Stone, Roy Ayers, Ben Harper, Stevie Wonder, and he was the last DJ to open for Ray Charles and the 1st to DJ for Barack Obama's victory celebration. If that wasn't enough, for the last 3 years, he has been hosting a show on the LA based radio station KCRW. http://www.myspace.com/musaics --- This show is presented by THE DO LAB --- The Do LaB is a Los Angeles based company specializing in interactive environments, event production and creative lighting design all in service of its highest mission: creating experience as art form.
